Running Noble Ambitions Inside Temple of Elemental Evil: The Suel Pantheon Toolkit for DMs

Image
If you’re threading Living Greyhawk’s Noble Ambitions through Temple of Elemental Evil (ToEE), the Suel ruins and gods aren’t just wallpaper—they’re switches and levers your players can read and pull. This post is my behind-the-screen guide to using my Suel Pantheon article as a practical, table-ready engine for side quests, clues, and atmosphere. TL;DR: This supplement gives you a readable Suel myth-map, visual keys for ruin symbols, fast DCs for “reading” rooms, and plug-in side quests—all built to snap directly into Noble Ambitions scenes inside the ToEE sandbox. Why I wrote this (and why it helps you run NA in ToEE) I’m 3orcs . I’ve spent years building the Verbobonc Campaign Guide 576cy —adventures, NPCs, art, and maps for running ToEE at epic, lived-in scale. My players weren’t satisfied with “a dusty mosaic and some orcs.” They wanted to decode the place. So I distilled the Suel mythos into table tools: A clear Elder Order list with symbols you can drop into ...

House Krivaltis: The Rise, Fall, and Intrigue of a Minor Noble Family in Verbobonc, Greyhawk DND Campaign

Pivotal Nobles for Temple of Elemental Evil Campaign

The story of House Krivaltis is one of ambition, betrayal, and redemption, offering Dungeon Masters a rich tapestry of drama and political intrigue for their Temple of Elemental Evil campaigns. As a minor noble house with a tragic history, the Krivaltis family provides a captivating narrative to intertwine with the events in Verbobonc and beyond.

The Origins and Rise of House Krivaltis

House Krivaltis began as a modest noble family in the Viscounty of Verbobonc, primarily known for its fertile farmlands west of Mol. Under the stewardship of Lord Eldris Krivaltis, the family gained recognition for its agricultural contributions and subtle alliances with the local merchant class. However, Eldris's ambition outpaced his caution, and this would ultimately lead to the family's downfall.

Eldris’s covert dealings with the Temple of Elemental Evil—using his lands to supply resources and intelligence—sealed his fate. When his treachery was exposed, he was executed for treason, and the Viscount stripped the family of their titles and holdings.

Nysera Krivaltis

Lady Nysera Krivaltis, daughter of Eldris, embodies the resilience and ambition of her lineage. Exiled from Verbobonc and branded by her father’s treachery, Nysera fled to the lawless village of Nulb, where she reinvented herself. Ruthless and politically astute, Nysera is a key NPC for Dungeon Masters to leverage in their campaigns.

Her partnership with her brother, Lakash Quallad, a merchant and secret agent of the Temple of Elemental Evil, makes her a dangerous player in the region. Nysera’s ultimate goals are to consolidate power in Nulb, reclaim her family’s lost title, and rebuild House Krivaltis to its former glory.

Quote: “A town like Nulb needs a firm hand; without it, chaos is the master.”

Lakash Quallad: The Merchant with a Dark Agenda

While Nysera operates openly in Nulb, her brother Lakash navigates the political landscape of Verbobonc with charm and guile. Publicly, he is a respected merchant with connections to the gnomes of the Kron Hills. Privately, he is an agent of the Temple of Elemental Evil, using his influence to destabilize Verbobonc’s alliances and sow discord between humans and gnomes.

For Dungeon Masters, Lakash provides a master manipulator NPC whose true intentions remain hidden behind a façade of philanthropy and community service. His secret alliance with the Temple adds layers of complexity to any campaign.

Political Intrigue and Relationships

House Krivaltis’s story offers a fascinating intersection of personal ambition and larger political struggles in Verbobonc:

  • The Council of Lords: Nysera’s brother, Lakash, uses his connections to gain influence over the Council of Lords. This political maneuvering could lead to friction between factions in Verbobonc and opportunities for player intervention.
  • Viscount Wilfrick: The Viscount’s decision to seize the Krivaltis lands after Eldris’s treachery remains a point of contention. Nysera’s goal of reclaiming these lands puts her in direct conflict with the Viscount and the established nobility.
  • The Temple of Elemental Evil: Both Nysera and Lakash serve the Temple in their own ways, providing Dungeon Masters with a direct link to the larger campaign narrative.

Socio-Economic Impact of the Krivaltis Fall

The loss of House Krivaltis left their lands unclaimed and their serfs without leadership. The resulting instability in the region offers a prime opportunity for adventurers to intervene. Will they support Nysera’s bid for legitimacy, assist the Viscount in restoring order, or exploit the chaos for their own gain?

Plot Hooks for Dungeon Masters

  1. The Rise of the Baroness: Nysera seeks adventurers to eliminate a rival pirate captain in Nulb. The party’s success could cement her rule or expose her connections to the Temple.
  2. Brotherly Betrayal: Evidence surfaces that Lakash plans to betray Nysera. The adventurers must decide whether to support her or use this information to further their own goals.
  3. The Temple’s Influence: Lakash hires the party to escort a shipment, unaware that it contains supplies for the Temple of Elemental Evil. How will they react when the truth is revealed?

Bringing House Krivaltis into Your Campaign

Integrating House Krivaltis into your Temple of Elemental Evil campaign adds depth to the political and social dynamics of Verbobonc. Nysera’s cunning, Lakash’s duplicity, and their shared ambition create a web of intrigue that players can unravel. Whether as allies, adversaries, or something in between, the Krivaltis siblings offer memorable encounters and meaningful choices.
