Running Noble Ambitions Inside Temple of Elemental Evil: The Suel Pantheon Toolkit for DMs

Image
If you’re threading Living Greyhawk’s Noble Ambitions through Temple of Elemental Evil (ToEE), the Suel ruins and gods aren’t just wallpaper—they’re switches and levers your players can read and pull. This post is my behind-the-screen guide to using my Suel Pantheon article as a practical, table-ready engine for side quests, clues, and atmosphere. TL;DR: This supplement gives you a readable Suel myth-map, visual keys for ruin symbols, fast DCs for “reading” rooms, and plug-in side quests—all built to snap directly into Noble Ambitions scenes inside the ToEE sandbox. Why I wrote this (and why it helps you run NA in ToEE) I’m 3orcs . I’ve spent years building the Verbobonc Campaign Guide 576cy —adventures, NPCs, art, and maps for running ToEE at epic, lived-in scale. My players weren’t satisfied with “a dusty mosaic and some orcs.” They wanted to decode the place. So I distilled the Suel mythos into table tools: A clear Elder Order list with symbols you can drop into ...

Tyne Timber & Trade: The Merchant Empire of Twilight Falls, Gnarley Forest, Greyhawk DND Campaign

Introduction: The Powerhouse of Twilight Falls

Tyne Timber & Trade is the dominant lumber enterprise in Twilight Falls, a thriving village in the western Gnarley Forest. This company, built on the wealth of the region’s fine hardwoods, has brought both prosperity and strife. At its helm is Robleth Tyne, a shrewd and miserly merchant who serves as the village’s mayor and a key figure in Verbobonc’s timber trade.

While Tyne Timber & Trade fuels the region’s economy, it has also ignited conflict with druids, rangers, and the elves of the Gnarley. It’s a perfect location for adventurers to uncover political intrigue, industrial greed, and escalating tensions between commerce and nature.

The Legacy of Tyne Timber & Trade

Tyne Timber & Trade was founded by Elder Romarl Tyne, a two-time mayor and one of the first backers of Dantilus Trimber’s Merchant Consortium in Verbobonc. Under his rule, the company was respected, profitable, and moderately mindful of the forest’s resources.

However, when Robleth Tyne inherited the business, he expanded aggressively, increasing lumber output, establishing new cutting zones deep in the Gnarley Forest, and forging exclusive trade deals with Verbobonc’s nobility and shipbuilders.

“If the elves cared so much for these woods, they’d have done something useful with them.” – Robleth Tyne

Business Operations

Tyne Timber & Trade has a vast influence over Twilight Falls, controlling the local timber, pelts, and medicinal plant trade.

  • The Sawmill: A massive water-powered structure processing logs into planks and beams for export.
  • The Log Yards: Where felled trees are sorted by size and quality before being transported.
  • Merchant Offices: A fortified stone-and-wood building that houses Tyne’s trade records, permits, and negotiation chambers.
  • Guardhouse & Watchtower: Tyne employs mercenaries to keep competitors in check and protect his interests.

Political Influence & Conflict

Tyne has made himself indispensable to Verbobonc’s merchant elite, but his aggressive expansion has alienated the druids, rangers, and elves of the Gnarley.

Conflicts with the Old Faith & Druids

The Circle of the Old Faith, led by Archdruid Mahrli Wildbriar, has denounced Tyne’s exploitation of the forest. Druids and rangers have sabotaged his logging camps, and rumors swirl that his timber scouts have gone missing deep in the woods.

  • Mahrli Wildbriar: Openly opposes Tyne’s expansion, warning that his greed will bring ruin upon Twilight Falls.
  • Elven Hostility: The four great elven clans of the Gnarley refuse to do business with him, branding him an enemy of the forest.
  • The Gnarley Rangers: While officially neutral, some rangers covertly undermine Tyne’s efforts.

“The Old Faith clings to the past like a drowning man to driftwood. The future belongs to those willing to build it.” – Robleth Tyne

Merchant & Political Alliances

Despite opposition, Tyne’s power remains strong due to his alliances.

  • Verbobonc’s Merchant Nobility: Several noble families profit from his lumber trade, ensuring their continued support.
  • Dantilus Trimber’s Merchant Consortium: A powerful merchant lord backing Tyne in return for lucrative timber contracts.
  • Hired Enforcers: Tyne employs mercenaries to guard his lumberyards, caravans, and personal holdings.

Lumber Operations & Key Locations

Tyne Timber & Trade controls several key sites across the Gnarley Forest and beyond.

Logging Camps & Trade Routes

  • Green Hollow Logging Camp: A heavily guarded camp deep in the Gnarley Forest.
  • Raven’s Hollow Outpost: A small, disputed outpost near elven territory—frequent attacks make it dangerous.
  • Twilight Run Trade Route: A river-based transport network, using rafts and barges to ship timber to Verbobonc.

Timber Production

Tyne Timber & Trade processes various high-value woods, but harvesting Ipp Wood has put them in direct conflict with druids and elves.

  • Oak: High-production wood used in shipbuilding, furniture, and construction.
  • Pine & Ash: Moderate production, used for common goods.
  • Ipp Wood (Restricted): Highly sought-after, but its harvesting is forbidden by the elves.

Adventure Hooks for Dungeon Masters

This location provides numerous adventure opportunities for DMs running the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign.

1. Secrets & Shady Deals

  • Illegal Logging? Tyne’s loggers may be cutting beyond legal boundaries, possibly violating sacred druidic lands.
  • Smuggling Ring? Rumors suggest that Tyne’s trade routes are being used to transport contraband beyond timber.
  • Mysterious Disappearances – Several workers and scouts have vanished in the Gnarley. Are the elves behind it… or something worse?

2. Power Struggles & Political Intrigue

  • A Merchant’s Plea: A rival merchant seeks evidence to undermine Tyne’s monopoly—but at what cost?
  • Druids on the Warpath: The Old Faith demands an end to deforestation—will the adventurers negotiate peace or escalate conflict?
  • The Assassination Plot: Rumors swirl that forces are conspiring to remove Tyne from power. Will the adventurers uncover the truth in time?

3. Banditry on the Forest Road

  • The merchant roads near Twilight Falls have seen a rise in banditry, possibly funded by Tyne’s rivals or elven saboteurs.
